Deliverance is a profoundly personal and deeply spiritual journey. At its essence, it involves liberating individuals from the burdens that restrain them and equipping them to pursue lives marked by purpose and fulfillment.
Can a child of God be demon-possessed?
No. Demon possession implies that an evil spirit has taken residence within a person’s spirit and exercises near-total control over the individual. In Christian belief, however, the Holy Spirit dwells within the believer’s spirit, and therefore demonic forces cannot inhabit that inner spiritual space.
Can a child of God be overtaken by unclean spirits or be “demonized?
Yes. The Greek term daimonizomai, often translated in the King James Version as “possessed,” can also be understood to mean being under spiritual influence or control to varying degrees. Within this viewpoint, it is believed that demonic influences will affect a Child of God's body or mind in different ways and circumstances.
several possible scenarios:
1. The demonic spirit may have been present before conversion and was never addressed after the individual was saved.
2. It may occur during periods of spiritual decline or intentional returning to sinful behaviors.
3. The Unclean spirit may have entered the body through generational curses from the child of God's ancestors, negative declarations and affiliations, or spiritual practices believed to have harmful effects.
4. In other cases, the influence is described as external “oppression,” meaning the attack is perceived to come from outside rather than from within. Many believers view this form of spiritual opposition as a common daily challenge.
Is there a biblical passage that explicitly states a child of God cannot be oppressed or influenced demonic spirits?
No. Many individuals incorrectly maintain the belief that Christians are entirely immune from all demonic influence and oppressions. The Lord Jesus called deliverance “the Children’s Bread” (Mt. 15:26), declaring it was for the children of God! Be advised that attempting deliverance sessions on individuals who have not be born-again carry spiritual risk, as they lack the spiritual grounding and tools necessary to resist further possession. This belief is connected to Matthew 12:43–45, which describes the condition worsening if a unclean spirit returns after being cast out of the sinner!
Salvation and deliverance are both essential to walk in God's purpose for your life!
After a believer is saved, it is highly crucial that the Child of God pursue deliverance and spiritual growth. Believers may still struggle with lingering strongholds such as lust, sexual sin, drug and alcohol abuse, pornography, dishonesty, resentment, unforgiveness, hatred, fear or other destructive patterns. If these ‘doors’ remain open, it gives the devil "LEGAL ACCESS" to keep oppressing the child of God rather than the freedom intended for that individual!
